SYNTHESIS OF CALCIUM CARBONATE (CaCO3) FROM EGGSHELL BY CALCINATION METHOD

Calcium is an essential nutrient the human body needs to control blood pressure and maintain strong bones teeth. One type of calcium that often consumed safe for health carbonate. It can obtain this material from chicken eggshell waste, where it known CaCO3 content 95%. Therefore, conducted research see phase, functional group, absorbance level, energy band gap samples. was synthesized using calcination method, in which egg shells were first soaked sodium hypochlorite, then dried at 250°C 10 minutes, powder obtained. Then characterized by XRD, FTIR, UV-Vis. The results XRD analysis showed calcite phase 100% according JCPDS PDF (96-901-6707) with a crystalline size 22.6 nm. FTIR samples absorption peak 4000-500 cm-1 identified groups Ca-O, C-O, -CH2, O-H. absorb light wavelengths 237.1 nm, 251.5 289.7 have 3.91 eV. Thus, simple sample obtained extraction later be applied medical field.
